Alan Cohen leads R4’s Office of General Counsel bringing more than 40 years’ experience practicing in the areas of financial services and real estate. His primary areas of practice have included the structuring of tax-advantaged real estate investments including multi-investor syndications, creating public-private partnerships for urban neighborhood revitalizations, and overseeing investments for corporate treasury and tax departments.

Prior to joining R4 Capital, Alan was a Partner at Holland & Knight where he advised clients on transactions using Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits, sale-leasebacks, New Market Tax Credits and energy tax credits, and combining Opportunity Zone investments with other tax-advantaged investments. He has represented national syndicators, multi-national corporations in all business sectors, as well as national, international and investment banks.

Alan is a member of the New York Bar Association and the City Bar Association with Bar Admissions/Licenses from the States of Florida and New York. Alan was awarded inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America guide, Real Estate Law, 2013-2026; Tax Law, 2026 and New York Super Lawyers magazine, 2006-2010, 2013-2019. He has served as a director and legal counsel to the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition and advisory board of the American Bar Association Tax Credit and Community Development Forum. He received his juris doctor degree, cum laude, from New York Law School and his Bachelor of Arts from The George Washington University.
